J. Monroe presents: “The Return of The Renaissance Man,” a stunning gallery showcase of his photography. The exhibit is a 21st-century interpretation of the Harlem Renaissance. Hosted by ArtfullWalls Gallery, the event was attended by a host of friends and supporters.

Monroe says the inspiration for his collection developed from his wonder with the era and Black people’s ability to create and feel free in a time where freedom was still just fresh idea for Black people in America. 100 years later, we face some of the same challenges, and in turn, create our magic in spite of it.

The collection is a bold display of beauty and power. It is an unapologetic celebration of the time featuring his stunning cast of muses. It is a mix of classic style with modern sensibility, encapsulating the strength and resilience of the people of that time.

Elegance and empowerment was the overarching theme. Guest intermingled and exchanged ideas and the night culminated with a classic group photo on the stoop of the gallery reminiscent of Art Kane’s “A Great Day in Harlem.”
